A Simple Toy

While exploring Trinidad de Cuba I saw quite a few boys with these wooden tops. This one youngster was a bit camera-shy, but he did want to demonstrate for me. He wound the string around the top, secured the end around his fingers, then flipped it onto the sidewalk with a whip-like action. While the top was spinning, he would flip it in the air and catch it in his hand. He did all this without putting down the pen I had given him.
